Frequently Asked Questions

You can add NP Boost to any website. Please be aware that adding NP Boost to a website that’s not built with WordPress will require just a few additional steps. We make this easy by housing licensing features on our website. Read on to find out more. 

 Receiving NP Boost

• After you sign up for NP Boost, you will receive an HTML file titled search-embed.html and a license key. This HTML file will be used to download NP Boost as a code block, and the license key will be used to activate NP Boost on your site.
• You will also receive the zip file and license key on the confirmation page after making your purchase. We automatically create an account for you after you make a purchase. You can use this account to review past purchases and license keys. You can also edit which domain your license key supports.

Adding your website’s domain to NP Boost

• After making a purchase you will be asked to create a password via email. Follow the instructions in the email to create a password for your account. On the NP Lab website, click on Account. 
• Click on View Licenses.
• Click on Manage Sites.
• Paste the main domain of your website into the text field. For example, if your website is nonprofit.org, this is what you will enter after https:// in the text field. In its entirety the text field will read https://nonprofit.org, for example. Do not include the subdomain – for example if you are placing NP Boost on your donate page you would not enter nonprofit.org/donate. 
• Click Add Site.

Copying NP Boost’s HTML code

• Use your file explorer to navigate to the NP Boost HTML file.
• Double click on the file to open NP Boost. This will open NP Boost as a web page. This webpage will say “License key is missing or invalid” – don’t worry. This is normal at this phase of setup. 
• Right-Click on the page and select View Page Source. This will show you the code that will need to be copied to your website.
• Copy the code exactly as it appears. You should see somewhere between 10 and 20 lines of code.

Adding NP Boost to your site

• Login to your website’s editor.
• Navigate to the page that you want to add NP Boost to.
• Add a block that lets you add HTML to your site. This might be called a Code Block, on Squarespace for example.
• Paste the code that you copied into the HTML block.

Entering your License Key

• Go back to the email that you received and copy the license key.
• On the line of code that reads src=”https://nplab.org/?npboost_preview=1&license_key=PLACE_YOUR_KEY_HERE”  paste your license key over the text that reads PLACE_YOUR_KEY_HERE. For example, if your license key was 123456789, after pasting your license key the entire line of code would read src=”https://nplab.org/?npboost_preview=1&license_key=123456789″.

Adjusting NP Boost

• Resize NP Boost as desired by selecting an edge of the frame and dragging to the appropriate size.
• Please be aware that NP Boost will show an error while you are in edit mode. After pasting your license key, adding to your site, and adding the correct domain on NP Lab, NP Boost is functioning properly. Navigate to a live version of your site to view NP Boost in action.

• After NP Boost has been installed, you can move it by hovering over the app with your cursor. Holding down the left mouse button and dragging the cursor will let you move NP Boost to a different part of your website. 
• You can resize NP Boost by hovering your cursor over any edge of the app. Holding down the left mouse button and dragging the cursor will let you resize NP Boost.
• It is important to note that NP Boost needs a certain amount of vertical space to function properly. This means that NP Boost can be nearly any width, but needs to be a set height. This is done intentionally to ensure that your donors can see all the information that they will need to get their donation. We’ve tested multiple formats and found that the current format of NP Boost results in the most matched donations. 

The best way to make sure your donors are using NP Boost is to make it easy for them! We’ve put together a few tips based off of what we’ve seen nonprofits using NP Boost have success with:

• Put NP Boost next to your donate form. Add NP Boost adjacent to your donate form so that your donors are prompted to check if their employer matches donations. 
• Put NP Boost on a dedicated thank you page. If your donors are redirected to a thank you page after making a donation, add NP Boost to the thank you page. Be sure to let your donors know how impactful matching donations can be.
• Put NP Boost on several pages of your website. If you have parts of your website dedicated to Other Ways to Support like volunteering, in-kind donations or gifts of stock, add NP Boost to these pages as well as your donate page. Your NP Boost license gives you an unlimited number of copies for a single website, so feel free to add multiple forms on your site!
• Send NP Boost in a thank you email. After a supporter makes a donation, follow up with a thank you email and ask them to check NP Boost to see if their employer will match their donation. Be sure to express gratitude for the gift they’ve already given and explain how helpful a matching donation would be for your nonprofit. • Post on social media. Create a post announcing that your nonprofit has a way for your donors to match their donation! Link to your donate page with NP Boost installed. This is a great way of re-engaging your supporters and bringing new followers to your donate page. Let your donors know that even if they’ve donated in the past, they can probably get their donation matched. Over 90% of employers in the NP Boost database will match donations made within the past year. 
• Send a targeted email to your donors. If your nonprofit has been collecting information from your donors that includes their employer, you can use NP Boost to check if their employer has a matching donation program. You can then send them a personalized email that lets them know that they have access to matching funds, and refer them to NP Boost. Make the process as easy as possible; thank them for their gift, let them know that they can double their gift, and show them how. 
• Send an email blast to your donors. If your nonprofit doesn’t have employer information about your donors, you can either use LinkedIn and Google search to find their employers, or send an email blast to all of your past donors asking them to check NP Boost to see if they have access to matched funds. It’s another great way of re-engaging your donors and sharing your donate page with a wide audience.

• To use NP Boost as a WordPress Plugin, you will need a WordPress Business license.
• For all other use cases, you need the ability to add an HTML block to your site. 

You don’t need to do anything to make sure NP Boost is up to date. NP Boost will automatically update on the back end. Just download and enjoy!

NP Boost will not negatively impact your website’s load time. It has the same impact on site load speed as a small jpeg. NP Boost was developed to be a lightweight solution to donation matching.
